Mostly children should play in the age group that corresponds to their age on 31 August 2018. So a child who is age 7 on 31 August 2018 should play in the Under 8 level even if he or she turns 8 some time during the season - the key is that he or she is is under the age of 8 on 31 August.
Under 8 and Under 9 teams do not need a cricket kit. Under 10 and 11 will play a modified format and may bring their own gear if they wish. Under 10 to Under 16 players can either bring their own equipment or use the club's. A full kit includes helmet, gloves, bat, leg pads, and box. Players may also bring some of their own equipment and use from the club kit what they don't have.
